A new cloud communications foundation puts ticket sales, fan engagement and internal collaboration on one platform across the organization.

For sports organizations, fan engagement is increasingly an operating model—not simply a marketing initiative. Every ticket inquiry, service request and sales lead depends on whether the right employee can respond quickly, with enough context to make the interaction useful.

The New York Mets are addressing that challenge with a new deployment of RingCentral cloud communications tools across all 800 employees. The club is replacing its legacy on-premise phone system with RingEX for organization-wide communications and adding RingCX to support fan engagement and ticket sales.

The objective is straightforward: create a more flexible communications backbone for the business while giving the sales organization a more scalable way to reach prospective fans. With RingCX, the Mets say their team can call and text every fan lead, supported by unlimited toll-free and outbound calling.

“Our goal is to be the most fan-friendly and technology-driven organization in baseball, and that means continually investing in tools that strengthen how we connect with our fans and one another. RingCentral provides a flexible, scalable communications platform that will help our sales team engage more fans while supporting greater collaboration across the organization. Its open-platform approach and compatibility with our existing technology environment will help streamline workflows, improve visibility and allow us to operate more efficiently.” — Oscar Fernandez, Senior Vice President of Technology, New York Mets

The practical opportunity is not merely to create a higher volume of calls and texts. It is to make every interaction easier to route, track and act on. For a ticketing operation, that can mean reducing the gap between a fan expressing interest and a sales representative responding; keeping the full context of a conversation available across channels; and giving managers a clearer view of activity, response times and outcomes.

That matters during the moments that shape a club’s annual revenue cycle: season-ticket renewals, new-plan launches, premium inventory campaigns, group-sales pushes and high-demand games. A modern communications platform can give a team the capacity to stay responsive when lead volume spikes, without forcing staff to work from disconnected systems.

The broader deployment is equally important. Replacing an on-premise phone system with a cloud platform gives the organization one foundation for employee collaboration as well as customer-facing work. The Mets cited the platform’s open approach and compatibility with their existing technology environment as a way to streamline workflows and improve visibility.

For sports executives, that is the more consequential part of the story. AI-enabled communications only create value when they fit into the tools teams already use, particularly the CRM, ticketing platform, service workflows, and data-reporting environment. The technology should make the next best human action more obvious, not create another standalone channel for employees to manage.

“The Mets came to us with a clear goal: to expand their ability to connect with fans while creating a modern, scalable communications foundation across the organization. RingCX will help their sales team act on more opportunities and engage fans at scale, while RingEX gives the whole organization a modern foundation to work from. The result is a better experience on both sides – fans receive faster, more personalized engagement, and the Mets have more tools for their sales operation to run more efficiently.” — Joe Jacob, SVP, Global Enterprise Sales, RingCentral

As clubs evaluate similar tools, the implementation questions are as important as the product decision. How will fan data move between the communications platform and the CRM? Which messages require human approval? How will teams manage texting consent, escalation paths and quality assurance? And which measures will define success: speed to lead, conversion rate, service resolution, revenue per representative or fan satisfaction?

The Mets’ rollout is a useful reminder that fan experience and revenue operations are converging on the same systems. The teams that get the most from AI communications will be the ones that use them to give people better context, faster handoffs and more time for the conversations that build lasting fan relationships.
