Sporting KC Builds 3D Videoboard Preview Tool With Claude

Sporting Kansas City’s creative team built a 3D preview tool to test gameday videoboard content in a virtual version of Sporting Park before sending files to production.
Sporting Kansas City has developed a stadium videoboard testing app with help from Anthropic’s Claude, according to Nate Saathoff, the club’s Creative Director. Designers can upload a file, view it on virtual versions of the venue’s boards and examine it from different positions around the stadium.
The tool addresses a production problem: a graphic that appears centered and readable on a laptop may look different at stadium scale. Saathoff singled out the South board’s angled cut, which can obscure content designed on a flat canvas. The club’s stadium fact sheet lists a 2,016-square-foot South board and a 550-square-foot North board.
“Legibility, pacing, and scale can be checked before anything goes to production.” — Nate Saathoff, Creative Director, Sporting Kansas City
Saathoff said the team used board specifications and Claude to turn the idea into a working app more quickly than a conventional development process.
The club expects the tool to speed approvals, reduce last-minute gameday surprises and give designers more time for creative work, Saathoff wrote.
